Welcome to ASALH Detroit’s Website
A Message from the President
We celebrate the renewal of ASALH Detroit by recognizing that history is a sustaining force for continued growth and progress within our communities. For as Dr. Carter G. Woodson often said, “Those who have no record of what their forebears have accomplished lose the inspiration which comes from the teaching of biography and history”. Dr. Woodson’s words are as relevant today as they were when he first began to record African and African American life and history. Using his example, ASALH Detroit will promote discussions, lectures, and activities that build and renew understanding of ourselves within diaspora.
It is a pleasure to work with the members of ASALH Detroit, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, the largest African American Museum in the United States, other institutions and individuals who are dedicated to the preservation of African American History. In the spirit of our ancestors we have much work to do as we enlighten our children and develop a legacy for those yet born. We welcome your contributions and involvement as we develop programs to celebrate our history.
